I know this Insurance thing has been beaten into the ground on here, but I now Have GMAC Ins. on the Boss and am being transfered to Texas in a few weeks and GMAC doesn't cover that state....
I pay $427.00 a year for full coverage.....Can anyone help with a Ins. carrier that covers Tex. around the same premium price????

Thanks

I'm sure some will help, but you should be able to keep your Insurance from GMAC, just you can't buy new insurance from them for any other vehicle.

Hi Adrian......I called GMAC and there are about 15 states they don't sell Motorcycle Ins. in and Tex. is one of them.
Maybe some people out here will post some Ins. companies that cover the Boss....It sure beats calling every Ins. co. in the Country.
How's that leg and new Wing doing???

Dave...check out State farm. I pay $350/year in NJ which has the highest rates in the country. They won't insure the bike alone but I also have two cars with them. They, fortunately, classify the Boss in the over 750 cc class and don't have a category for 5700 cc...luckily! Check it out because if State farm writes in NJ, I'm sure they do in Texas.

Dave

My leg is doing real well and I have 7,000 miles on my wing. Not bad for an old guy but I am leaving here in the AM going to Seattle to meet with some Boss Hoss Owners, Bob Posey, Tom Pillow and some others to start a ride over to Glacier then north to Prince George. Total mileage should be about 5,000 miles and all in 10 days.

Adrian.......One of the guys that went with us to the mountains had an 03 wing and I put about 50 miles on it....Very Nice!!!
While the Boss was chugging along at 6000 ft. the wing was just cruising with the EFI....
But whenever we stopped somewhere all kinds of people gathered around the Boss and nobody even looked at me on the wing or the other 2 Harleys that were with us
Guess I need 2 bikes...HUH.....Still like the Attention and Question answering I get from the Boss....

Dave........

You are so right about people not even seeing it. They go right over to Cozaey on the Trike and ask all kinds of questions. I will say that when I drive my Rune I get a lot of complements and looks from folks.

Hey Dave,

Sorry it took so long to get back but I was gone all week end. If you go to www.txfb-ins.com you can bring up a list of agents. I am in Indiana and the phone for my agency is 765-342-3381. If you have no luck getting a number from the web site maybe you can give them a call and they will be able to hook you up with an agent.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Sorry no help here as even living in Texas I use USAA and have never gotten quotes from any othe company. Mine is about $850 a year for full coverage which and I have both vehicles and the house with them. I like getting the check back at the end of the year if there is money left after paying claims!

I should be in the insurance business up here in Canada, because after reading all these posts about it, they are making good money especially from me. I pay $2,347 per year for full coverage, which is way too much. And that is with a $1,700 deductible!! There is only one company up here that will touch a Boss (ING Insurance), or that's what I've been told. The rest of them won't insure a Boss because it has an "automobile engine" in it. I realize the rules change from state to state and country to country, etc. but if anybody knows something I should hear about as far as cheaper rates go, please let us all know. :x

Insurance

Bryan,
I hear ya on the insurance woes up in Canada. Its been a long time since I posted. I did buy my Boss. I got a 2003 385 but have yet to add to my avatar. Lazy ass I suppose. Anywho.... I pay $1300 a year with Co-operators insurance in Ontario for the B-H.... same as what I pay for my BMW 1150GS. I pay even more for my VW Jetta TDI wagon believe it or not! I don't know if you have Co-operators out in Alberta but if you do it may be worth giving them a call. I've also heard State Farm but I think you have to have everything with them first.

Thanks everybody for all the info on Insurance in Texas........Farm Bureau,State Farm,GMAC and a few others don't even write the Boss in Texas....State farm and a few others write thru Progressive.
I got quotes anywhere from $2400.00 to $4000.00 for full coverage from 4 different insurance companys.........
Liability is about $500.00 to $700.00 a year....I tried a couple places that David (Of Houston Boss Hoss) said were the cheapest around
If I owned a Trike the Ins. drops down to about $650.00 a year for full coverage. (Go Figure!!!) If they knew people Like Geezer Had Trikes they would charge 5 times more!!!..Hee..hee....
Looks like it's time for a new Sreaming Eagle Road Glide...HUH....

An insurance update for ya!

As I mentioned a while back I was paying $2,347 per year, just for insurance on the Boss.. After following Doc's suggestion to call Co-operators, I got a helluva deal. The agent told me that if I bring him over the business on my house insurance and my GMC truck insurance, then I would get the Boss insurance for $893. So I said I'll be right over. As it turns out, my house insurance is $100 a year cheaper and my truck is $200 a year cheaper. That's over $1,700 less than what I paid last year :D . This is proof that it pays to read this forum and to ask questions even if you think they are dumb ones. Thanks Lamont for running this forum and thanks Doc for telling me about Co-operators. This just paid for the Laughlin trip in April. :capwin:

Badger,
Isn't there a way to use a friend's address who lives in a different state and "garage" your bike there? I don't have any idea if this can be done in your situation, but I know that these types of things are done all the time with boats and RVs.

For example: Many people create a LLC Corporation in Montana which they then use to buy their RV. There are no sales tax, personal property tax or ANY other taxes on an RV if owned by a corporation in Montana. Also, you never have to return the RV back to Montana for plates, inspection etc. Ever!

Just trying to help. I would hate for you to have to step away from the Boss.

Bill
