This is a picture of my setup now. I'd like to install a larger (4" or 5") tach, mounting it centered on the handlebars. Does anyone know of a tach mounting plate that will fit on the factory pullback risers? Thanks! :D

Don, this is the setup I'm looking for, exactly. Where did you get it? Did you change your setup, and if so do you still have this setup laying around collecting dust?

Bryan,
This is still my set-up. I decided the small tach is fine, as I don't take my eyes off the road when I'm WOT to look at it. The LED shift light in the center is visible day or night, and I can see it light up no problem, without looking right at it.
The guages (Boss Hoss logo) chrome cups and handlebar mounting brackets I got from Stamford BH. The Shift Light I got from Raptor. Great little unit! I think Tim has one also.

Don,

I have been looking at mine for quite awhile trying to decide how to put a 5" tach in the center...think I have found the solution.....

2 - 1 1/4" Kuryakyn "P" clamps ( I use one to hold my current shift light) turned so that they clear the front side of the handlebar clamp.....fabricate an aluminum or stainless strap that will cross between the clamps and bolt to them.............drill that strap to accomodate the tach mount and you should be able to clear the windshield and the clamp.

I'll let you know, think I'm going to pick up a tach this week and see if I can get it to work this weekend.........if I can, I" redo it in either polished stainless or aluminum and polish it.......

Tim,
First, I considered the 5" tach, but I think it's a little too big for my liking. Then I was considering a 3 3/8" or 3 3/4" tach. I'd have to do the same thing you're thinking about, with a clamp on each side of the handle bar clamp, and then a strap between the two. I'd have to put another kind of gauge on the left side, to replace the small tach, to balance the clock on the right side. Maybe a transmission temp gauge.
For now, I've decided that until either Mountain, or Marv, or someone else comes up with a Tach mount for the pullback risers I have, I'm gonna let it slide. I only look at the tach when I'm checking idle speed or occasionally when cruising. If I'm really on the Throttle, I rely on my ears and the shift light. So maybe I'll give that new Carb a little more thought instead.
Let me know what you decide on. If you mount a tach, maybe post a picture?.............Don

Don,

Go to Summit and search for SWW114960.

I picked one up today and am going to try it.....the 5" just doesn't fit well behind the windshield and I don't want it out in front.......

This is supposededly as bright or brighter than our Raptors, has a digital tach in the center, rpm recall, etc.......I'll let you know how it works.

Other option is going to a 3 3/4" tach with the raptor....but I really want the recall feature.....when I thought I floated the valve train in LaCrosse, I could have saved a lot of diagnosis if I had been able to see where the rpm had been......and that little tach is shrinking every time I ride it.....has to be something in the design....sure can't be my eyes getting worse

Don,

Got the Stewart Warner tach/shift light installed Friday night......wow, we thought the Raptor was bright......I set the shift point low and went out for a cruise...it the dark, it almost takes your sight away  I omounted it to the right of the bars on anothe P clamp for now....during the winter take down, I'm going to drill and tap the NOS controller housing and mount it centered....a bit cleaner.

I hooked the Raptor to my alarm system...remember I could not eliminate the back feed on my lights???....so now I have a visual on the alram setting......I wonder why these alarms have no provision for a "armed light" ???

Anyhow, the tach/light work well, the tach monitors in 10 rpm increments so it does rend to "bounce" some......but it is easy to see and appears to be within 100 rpm of the analog tach......nice unit. Just a s easy to see as a 5" and not as obtrusive ??
