Just a reminder to check your steering head torque from time to time. You need to loosen up all the top pinch bolts and then torque it down. Mine was real loose. :( I torque mine down at 60 lbs. That seems to give it just a slight bit of drag.

Right on! After reading your post I grabbed my BH manual ... while it lacks a lot of information it does specify a torque value (55 ft-lbs) for steering head.

 * being an A&P I am a little stuck on "everything has a torque value" mentality

steering head torque

Lamont , I'm sure you know this , but we discussed this a couple of years ago on the BHRA site and there were several guys that thought if you tightened the big accorn nut that it would tighten the steering head bearings . For those that don't know , the nut that tightens the steering head bearings on the old style forks is under the top triple clamp and to get to it you have to raise the top triple clamp. The big accorn nut on the top triple clamp just holds the top triple clamp to the stem.
