I want to replace the front and rear rotors on my 2000 Boss strictly for cosmetic reasons . On my original rotors rotors the plating is worn in spots and they rust after getting wet . I'd like stainless so they can't rust . Anyone know where I can get exact replacements in stainless other than the factory ? The bolt pattern , center dia. and the thickness would all have to match the originals .

Thanks ,

Hi Jack,
I think the only stainless replacements are 11.5" diameter as opposed to the 12" you have. Revtech has them but you will need different caliper brackets to move the calipers forward. The Revtech rotors are also thinner and not as pretty because they aren't polished. I had to install them when I went to the late model inverted forks. The bolt pattern is the same...Joe

Thanks Joe ,

I talked to Levi and he said that the 2001, 11 1/2" stainless steel rotors can be installed on a 2000 by using special caliper bracket the factory sells . The rotors are $ 240.00 and the caliper brackets are about $15.00 . I think I will probably go that route and polish the rotors . I just though maybe there would be some after market rotors that would fit that might be a little nicer .

You were asking about the brembo brakes . I think Don Blitz change his front brakes to the brembo set up and with your inverted front end you should be able to do the same and then sell me your rotors .

I'm thinking of having my front and rear rotors chrome plated . Anyone ever had this done and are there any problems ?

I'm not sure but I think they are Stainless steel and I understand you can't chrome plate S/S.
I tried to have some S/S chrome and the guy said you can not chrome them. I had them polished
and turned out beautiful.

Adrian,
The front and rear rotors on my 2000 I'm pretty sure are steel because a magnet sticks to them and they rust on the rotor surfaces and in the holes . They also look like they were chrome plated originally. I know 400 series stainless is magnetic but I don't think it will rust unless it has a lot of iron mixed .

Thanks,

I just checked the trike and the front is S/S but the ones off the 02 is steel so I was wrong. I would chrome them in a heart beat to get the super look. I'm not sure what will happen to the braking area but I'm sure they will wear in.

Hey Rick ,

I heard that you bought front rotors and calipers from Don Blitz and was curious if you installed them on your bike yet . If so how are the working . I needed rotors so I bought a set of 2001 rotors from Mountian . Now I need to buy the caliper brackets from the factory so I can mount them on my 2000 . They say the rotors are SS , but they must be 400 series because they are magnetic . I hope so because that's the only reason I'm replaceing them is because my 2000 rotors are rusted in spots . I also see that the stock 2000 rotors are .250 thick and the 2001 rotors are .200 thick .

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,
Yes I did buy Don's rotors and calipers. They are for another bike that I am building right now so I have not installed them yet. The rotors appear to be smaller in diameter and they are definately thinner than the ones on my 1996. They appear to be stainless but I didn't check them with a magnet. They are actually not that pretty because they are just kind of unfinished looking. They do have a design machined into them that matches the Mirage wheel. They must be stainless because they show no sign of ever being rusted. I plan to try to polish them and see how that works out. I think they will look pretty good.

Thanks Rick ,
I ordered the caliper brackets from the factory friday to mount my 2000 calipers for use with the 2001 rotors . $18.00 each

Levi told me he was leaving Boss Hoss for a better paying job . Too bad , he seemed to know his **** .

I found out too late that Revtech offers the stainless 11 1/2" rotors already polished. I'm having my satin ones polished this winter.
Levi leaving really bums me out. He was the best factory contact and am sending my frame down there for the new neck install. I hope his replacement is as good.
