I'm running my oil level between the two marks, should I have more oil in my motor to protect it on long curves like freeway ramps?....these v-8 bikes are new to me so I'm asking alot of questions,,,,thanks guys

I always keep my engine oil at the full (top) mark. If you're running between the marks, that means you're approx a half quart low.........Don
Geez Don..........I've been told for years that I'm running half a quart low   Guess I'd better start checking the "marks on the stick" so to speak

Going to miss the Myrtle Beach run :( Vicki has 3 caterings the last weekend or teh rally and it would not be a good plan on my part to abandon her

Hopefully we'll see ya later in the year at the rally or someplace.

Tim
Tim,
Aw Comeonnnnn :? ...........Ya already missed Daytona. That makes Myrtle Beach practically mandatory! How do you expect to "top up" that half quart you're missing. :beer3: I don't want to have to drink it myself!
Just walk around lookin real dejected!   Vicki will realize how miserable you are and insist that you go! :D :D Maybe............
It's early yet. Something might work out. I'll save a spot at the bar for ya! :capwin: :beer3: :beer2:
Hey guys, let me ask a stupid question. Do you check the oil with the bike standing upright or on the kickstand? Someone told me that there are different dipsticks and the one you have dictates how you check the level.

I changed the oil once but didn't notice were 5 quarts put the mark on the dipstick.
Ricky,

I check mine on the side stand because that is where I index it when changing oil & adding the appropriate amount.

Tim
Don,

My chin has been dragging so low that I'm gonna need plastic surgery to repair the damaged and torn areas of my face

Actually, I was the one who decided not to let her do them without help. She has one Friday, Saturday and Sunday.............one is over 300 and the other two are 200+.............she actually felt bad that I decided to pass on the trip.......should be good for a lot of sexual favors  8) Or a new tool box

Tim
OR BOTH!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

DO NOT TRUST YOUR DIP STICK. Change the oil and filter with five quarts and then run the motor for a few moments. Check YOUR stick on the side stand and mark the full line.

My stick was to long so I cut it at the top to make it right.
I'm not sure why we even check the oil between changes. I know of no one who has found they need to add oil if there are no leaks and no white smoke. I hardly bother anymore because the level has never moved in 5+ years! I fill it to the top but really anywhere between the marks is enough to fill the sump. 5 quarts with a filter change is what you need and no more.....Joe
PS: Has anyone found oil usage to be a problem without leaks or ring problems?

Yo!!. ALL the BIG BLOCKS use oil. They will use less the more miles you get on em. So you guys just getting big blocks, check your oil always.

CR
Don't know about all the 502's but mine uses oil. I have to keep it checked regularly.

Chris
I'm glad to hear that other 502's use oil. I'd heard that from people that say they know about high performance engines, but people always talk about things they know nothing about and I wasn't sure. Mine uses oil also and after changing the oil this weekend and putting in the 5 quarts, I now know where the full mark is on the dip stick.
