I'm an shovel head rider that's wants to move up to a v-8/v-6 bike...I've been looking around and just kinda like the looks of the big brute/kannon's I'm wanting a small block (chevy) but I understand these are single speed transmissions ....are these trouble free bikes and can you still get parts for the kannons?...I know the boss's rule but just care for the other guys looks.....also while asking questions ..I'm a streetrodder by heart and a streetrod radiator would sure look better then that wide radiator, I mean a t-bucket with a 500 hp. blower motor has a small radiator....any way guys give me some info..thanks

I am told they are no longer making the cruiser bike. I know there website for daytona beach kannon is gone. I understand they still make their chopper version though. go to to classified section of this gruop and look for a post from Elsboss. Has a picture of Eliott`s Kannon.
I had a Kannnon before I bought my new boss....... no comparison.

T-Dog,

No disrespect to any of the Boss riders but if you could find a recent model Kannon with a single speed it may work good for you. The 2 speed Nesco's in the Boss still have major deficits IMHO. There are 3 of them now in our garage awaiting parts and repair. The single speed Kannon is a dynamite tranny. If you're wanting a V8 cruiser, get a Boss. If you're wanting to do any serious hotroddding at the track, beware.

Regarding the radiator, no problems on our end using very small radiators on the smallblocks. Whole different story with the bigblocks though.

Elliot,
Have you heard anything aboout wether or not Kannon is still making the cruiser bike? I knida hate to see them go under with that one... a few years of refinement and they would have been awesome I am sure.
I see you got your nitrous.... how does it do against a big block now? Any 1/4 mile times?
Tom.

Hi Tom,

Kannon's cruisers are all but gone. Stan and Scott have quit producing them and there are all kinds of legal things going on as a result of that Daytona accident. Not good. The cruisers just couldn't compete with BH and with good reason. The Boss is just a better looking and more refined ride. Also, in spite of the BH's rather interesting dealer network (i.e. some are great and some suck), Kannon had a pretty skinny network...to be kind. Those guys are now 100% into the V8 Chopper thing. They also make some really hot Vtwin choppers. They won the Rat's Hole show in Sturgis with their V8 and Vtwin bikes.

The chopper whooped up on the BH bigblock without the nitrous. With the juice, it's no contest. The Boss has to shift at around 120 and we're pulling constantly with the single speed to about 140. You can't do a WOT shift on the bigblock are you leave your gearset in pieces.

With the new cam setup, Holley, roller lifters and rockers, tweaked ignition and nitrous, the chopper has been unbeatable. That however was just taken care of with Gary finishing his blower setup. Pics available to whoever wants. He's also using a 100 hp nitrous shot on top of the Weiand 142 blower...can you believe?! Untouchable.

Doug, who bought Gary's old '02 nitrous smallblock, has done a bunch to it. He's currently running a 300 hp nitrous shot through a 2 stage system and has not only the shock mounted 2 1/2 lb bottles but a 10 lb bottle on the luggage rack. His wheelies are incredible and his 1/8th mile times are consistently 6.1's . He just bought $3k worth of new heads as he's determined to get into the 5 second arena. Nobody's doing the 1/4 mile yet but Gary says he's probably going to when we're in Daytona next month. There's a track in Deltona so....

Hope all's well with you. Best regards,

Elliot

Elliot;

I would like to see some of those photos as well please.

By the way, Steve's Cycle in Cocoa Fl, 321-633-4665, is supposed to pick up a couple of the left over Kannons from Daytona. Steve is one of the most helpful and fair priced cycle repair facilities close to the Space Center primarily for V twins and Choppers, but he has a link with Siron Boss as well.

I'll call Steve tommorrow and verify and post the results.

Kannons

Tanner and TJ;

Steves Cycle on SR520, Cocoa, Fl. (about 50 miles south of Daytona), just picked up 2 Kannon Demos on consignment from the dealer in Daytona. The dealer in Daytona , I believe, is no longer in the V8 business.

One is a 2001, Red and White (55miles) single speed auto trans ZZ4 Chev, 350 CID 355HP. It listed for $34,500 and Steve has it for $28,500.

The other is a 2002 Pearl White ,(5 miles) with a 302 CID Ford 310 HP, also single speed auto transmission. It listed for $34,500 and is now $28,500.

Steves number is 321-633-4665

Hope you find this helpful.

Hi Jack,

Hope all is well with you and Mrs. Haven't talked in a long time. Flip an email to me and I'll get those pics you asked for. Using a new 'puter and lost some email addresses.

Those prices seem pretty big for the Kannons. An '01 even with those miles is 4 years old. When looking at '01 Bosses in Trader, ebay or wherever, they don't resemble those numbers. The Kannons should be less money as they're less bike IMHO. They definitely don't look as good.

Kannons

Elliot;

I'm not sure how much latitude Steve has on those prices, as they are consigned bikes.

Since my medical adventure, I havn't been able to get out much and poke around. Actually, a day off right now is my wife or myself not having some damned medical appointment!

I pulled up this older post to find out if anyone knew anything about the accident at Daytona a couple years ago. Did something break on the bike I should know about? I check the welds on the frame periodically, and everything seems okay. Just wondering..

Ok guys I had posted this about a year ago and thought I should post it again for the new guys. A couple years ago a fellow in Daytona cranked open a Kannon V8 cycle just to have the carb linkage stick open. Long story short, he fell off and the bike continued down the road hitting some people.

I would strongly suggest that you install a inner and outter double throttle return spring. If one should break you have another to pull closed the throttle. I do believe it is a NHRA requirement on drag cars. It does not add to the throttle pull. They are available through Summit, Jegs, and at most parts stores.

If my memory is right on this story, I believe it was a brand new bike. I would say that is a very good suggestion.

Bill - I did get the real low down on what actually happened that day. The guy who they built the chopper for did not want any kill switch and minimal controls on the bars. BAD CHOICE!!! All their bikes have kill switches and they will not sell a bike without them now.

Thanks Elvis,
Now I can breathe a sigh of relief. My 2001 Kannon does have the required off switch, thumbs distance from the throttle, and I just got done rebuilding the 650 Holley, which also has dual throttle cables, as mentioned, hooked up to it.
I bought the bike just a year ago, and with no owners manual or paper work of any kind, I've been slowly taking things apart to see what makes it tick. I was a little disappointed that they didn't install a proper fuse panel. I've added several inline fuses where I thought necessary. I'd hate to look like a flaming Evil Kinevel going down the road !!
Other than that, I still don't mind being the only Ford guy on the forum.
:wink:
