I should be recieving my Certificates in the mail for the Coast to Coast run I did in September. I just checked the Iron Butt website and they have both runs that I was getting certified listed on their website. The IBA site is: http://www.ironbutt.com
The rides were the 50 CC Quest Gold listed as "50 CC quest Gold (Coast to Coast the Hard Way) and the Bunburner Gold.
The ride started at the Atlantic City boardwalk in New Jersey

and ended at the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles California.

Great pics Glen. Congrats on making the ride in what has to record time on a boss. Looking forward to meeting up with you again somewhere this year.

Glen...The most mileage I've ever done in one day of riding was on a 1972 Triumph Trident in 1972. I did 717 miles and thought I was going to die. Granted the seat was hard and narrow and the bike light and bumpy and had no windshield but I was 28 years old...not 60! Also did 3000 miles in 5 days but 3 days sounds nearly impossible. I was reading the "Tips" on the webste and one thing stood out and that was to not drive a very high speeds which I aways do (80-95). Tires you out faster and requires more frequent gas stops. A steady 70-75 might result in more miles and less fatigue.
My hat is off to you, my friend. I think anyone who doesn't understand how hard it is on your physical and mental faculties just has to try it to understand. I've had semi-hallucinations about where the road was going at night when being very tired, felt like I was floating above the bike and other weird things with far fewer hours in the saddle.
Would still love to try once before I die...Joe

Thanks Tom & Joe,
717 miles on that old Thumper is nothing to sneeze over. That must have been a long day in the saddle. They are right on the driving. The key is to keep going but around the second day non-stop you find yourself doing more things to keep you going. Like singing to yourself and fortunately the Hoss is loud enough nobody heard me and I didn't even offond myself with my singing.

Iron Butt Rides

Glenn, Congratulations on your CC50. Well done, especially since you did it the hard way. Northeast to Santa Monica. Just for a heads up, I am doing the Iron Butt in late Aug and early Sept. on my BH 350. 11,000 miles in 11 days. There are only a few folks that know this. I keep telling folks that I am riding a 350 and most of them think it is a Honda 350. I have had some comments that they think I am too big for a 350, and I reply that with the mods that I have made I fit very well on the 350. Any suggestions you have on how to make the BH a long distance platform are appreciated. I have started the mods listed through out this forum to increase gas mileage, have installed a HID headlight, am about to install a secondary set of driving lights on a separate circuit, chaged the belt drive pulley on the transmission, and I just got my Russel Day Long set back and installed on my 350. It is a definite improvement on the Mustang Touring Seat. I have other ideas that I will share with you if you are interested. Please do not share this data with any other forums, because I can not wait until I drive up to Omaha at the National Rally in May on my 350. My only concern is meeting the strict noise testing requirements of the IBA. One of my distant riding buddies said that he was concerned that my 350 would not keep up with his Goldwing. I told him my 350 could easily reach the speed limit anywhere in the world and he said he would believe it when it saw it. Congratulations again, and feel free to send me any advice you have.

Hey Bill, This is Bud from LaPorte Tx. Met at that Dixie Dinner Bike show a year or so ago. Glad to hear your getting your Boss set up as nice as your old Roadglide was for long distance rides. I have finally gotten my Boss back on the road after my wreck coming home from last years Daytona bike week. It turned out pretty nice, I am ready to start showing it off. Have you heard of any weekend hangouts for the bikes or Hot Rods in the area? Hopefully the weather will get better soon and people will start meeting up somewhere again. Let me know if you hear of a ride or get together that sounds like fun. ( Short ride, not the iron butt rides you like to take )

Glen, congrats on your ironbutt certifications. The most miles I ever put on my boss in a day was 963 coming home from Arizona Bike week in 2002. I typically ride 500 to 700 a day on trips. Too bad you live so far away, I'm in the Seattle area, or we'd go for a ride together. I'd like to do an ironbutt someday, again great job!

Thanks Guys,
It was an interesting run. Critter, I wish you the best. I have often thought of going for that one myself but I will hold off. Give me a call sometime and I would be happy to compare notes. Home # is 860-623-0821 (EST)

You guys realize Glenn has no perspective of time and distance right? Last time in Daytona when Glenn took a "little spin" on my chopper telling me "I'll be right back", I saw him 3 hours and 290 miles later. And that was in Daytona traffic! Whoa!...

Elliot
