Inusrance Update

I know the question of who has what insurance company arises on occasion so I thought I'd throw in an update. I've had the Boss insured with Geico for the past 2 years. Got a letter a few days ago stating they would no longer carry comp and collision on the bike and gave 2 weeks notice. I have spoken with the CEO's staff about it and that is as far as I can go and they say it doesn't fit into their rate structure. What they are really saying is they don't want to insure a motorcycle with a V8. I guess I can see there hesitation but they don't even blink an eye at insuring a rice rocket with a top speed of 180mph with a 16 year old rider. Go figure. I honestly feel like this is discriminatory in nature but guess it really isn't worth the time to argue the point since there are other companies that do insure it. However, it could be a problem for all of us if a lot of companies started jumping on that band wagon. I don't feel good about riding around on a motorcycle as expensive as ours with just liability insurance.

Just a pain in the butt and it really ticked me off. I told them I was taking all my business away but probably won't because nobody can touch Geico's rates on my autos. Oh well.

I've heard of problems with the 502's getting insurance but I had no problem insureing my 350 with State Farm. Is was about the same price as my Valkyrie. I am looking into a new company to carry all my insurance now.
As a guy that has a insurance office and makes a living selling insurance, I have found that the very best company for me is GMAC insurance company. Good Sam had my insurance for years but sold to GMAC a few years ago. I have three autos, seven motorcycles, motor home, and my house covered. I had a claim for my Boss and Mean Streak for $35,000, a ticket for 85 in a 55 zone and no rate increase yet (knock on wood). Have had one billing cycle so far, so looking good. I would give them a try but I found out they are not in every state.

Phone number is 800-325-1190 Don't cost to check them out.

Adrian

It's cold here to.
I have a 98 Boss 350 and I am insured with Geico under their new "Custom Bike" plan. Just went into effect last spring. Anyways, due to my getting screwed over when an uninsured driver doing 60 in a 35 T-boned me two and a half years ago, I can't afford full coverage. They wanted to charge me something like 2000/year for full coverage and everyone else that would insure me wanted 4000 or more! I settled for liability only for now until that accident is removed from my record. I figure that at 2,000 - 4,000 / year, it makes more sense to just pay to have my bike repaired if I have an accident.

But. . ., I didn't pay 30,000 for my Boss either.

Hossman
Chris......Try GMAC Like Adrian was talking about.....I also have my Ins. thru them and it's $404.00 a year with full coverage but like he said they are not in every state.

I actually sent GMAC a check a few days ago. They do insure the bike in NC. I sure miss Florida cause my rates down there were so much cheaper. I have 3 insurance points due to an at fault accident in Port Orange (blue hair done something stupid and I got caught in it...my fault!) almost 3 years ago. They laid it on me big time up her in NC. Some of the toughest insurance rules in the nation. All the companies have to have agents licensed to do insurance in NC. I had 1 insurance point in FL and it jumped to 3 up here. Anyway, I pay about $1100 a year for my bike. I think it will drop a hundred maybe two when the accident drops off this Spring. It will still be a lot higher than a lot of you are paying elsewhere. We'll see. A lot of folks would not pay that kind of dough for motorcycle insurance but it is worth it to me. I love riding the thing too much! My wife is understanding too!

Insurance

Gentlemen; I had progresive Ins on my boss for 3 day's untill I received a bill from Progressive. They wanted $3176.00 a year, I was ready to sell my boss. No way was I going to spend that kind of money for Insurance. I contacted State Farm they insured me for $ 454.00 a year. Quite a difference. Only 1 ticket but both companey's were aware of it ,so I don't see how they get off charging that kind of money. Any one else have a simular insident. Rod
It is strange that Geico is not covering the Hoss when they have been so aggressive at advertising in many of the motorcycle mags. Also I wouldn't think that they have a high accident rate with these things as most people getting them are seasoned riders.
Glenn
Glen, I agree. Their logic is amazing. I acutally lucked out that they even wrote the Boss at all because Cycle Guard doesn't write the Boss Hoss. Cycle Guard is not available in NC so GEICO attaches motorcycles as an addendum (sp) to your auto policy. They said it doesn't fit into their rate structure. Yeah whatever. I'll just be glad when my accident drops off my record so I can be charged a semi reasonable rate again. GMAC is charging me about 480 more than Geico for the year because my Boss is on a stand alone policy with out my autos and they slapped the 2 insurance points on the bike. It is still cheaper for me to keep my autos with GEICO rather than move to GMAC. Like I said, GEICO has some darn good rates on what they do write.

Insurance

State Farm in NJ which has the highest rates in the country charges me $350/yr for $100/300K liability with full collision and theft. They don't make any distinction between any bikes over 750 cc. Same price for my Harley.
Joe
Boss Motorcycle Insurance

I just called GMAC "Phone number is 800-325-1190 Don't cost to check them out". They no longer carry a listing for Boss Hoss.
progressive insurance

i just called GMAC and they don't carry insurance for boss or any other of us any more ..but progressive will insure my kannon for full coverage at $877....
This stuff is amazing. I've had GMAC for a year now and just renewed and they don't insure Boss Hosses anymore! Progressive wouldn't insure my Boss and Geico , after almost 3 years, calls one day and says liability only for you mister!!

Oh well.

2005 Boss Hoss Insurance

I read your previous posts, so I decided to call GMAC. I have a 1999 350 ZZ4. They no longer in Ohio insure Boss Hoss. The only company is Progressive, and with 1 speeding ticket in July of 02, they quoted me $679.00 with a $500 deductable and a lay-up period. Oh did I mention that is with the roadside assistance ( them SOB's). With no competition, I am a captive audience!
millaniare-4....progressive insurance

I'm in ohio and ohio progressive will only cover me for a full year with no tickets at 53 for $877 with a high deductable( don't remember what but I think it was $2000...what's the difference quotes here?

I am 50 yrs of age. I have Progressive. The first year was 472.00 per year. They re-classified the Boss and the rate went to 800+. Last year it went to 1255.00 per year for no apparant reason. This is in Mississippi. I have full coverage.
I have Progressive, but only liability........even after they paid out on my Fatboy that was stolen, they were still low in the liability amount. However, when it came to full coverage they were $2000+ insuring it at $45,000.

I think Progressive is figuring out the physical damage potential on these things and the rates will continue to escalate. Insurance markets are supposedly looking at a "soft" market in the next couple of years and some companies may be structuring themselves out of low margin books for now.

Tim
Geico refused me full coverage last year but was willing to do liability only. It was cheap. I currently have GMAC and they charge me about $1200 for a year full coverage. Just for grins I got a quote this morning from Progressive (who claims to be the #1 in motorcycle insurance) for $864 for a year full coverage. I've got a couple more quotes coming in. I hate switching around but you can bet I will to save almost $400 a year. Does this hurt your insurance score to jump around like that? It is amazing how the rates vary so widely. I think Steve Barr is paying significantly lower that I am with State Farm. Joe has a great premium in NJ! I have the bike financed so I have to have full coverage.
