How much is the dealer paint allowance on a news boss hoss?

New bikes ship to the dealers without paint. The dealers get a paint allowance to cover the cost of getting a single color.

I am going to be getting my own painter. I paid retail price for the bike. How much should the dealer be reimbursing me for the paint?...

Jack,

You might find someone here who has the old price sheets. They used to price the bikes without paint also.

difference between an unpainted and a painted bike was 3000 when unpainted bikes were available. But there was also a LOT of assembly involved in making an unpainted bike road worthy.

Would you estimate $1,000 worth of assembly and $2,000 for the paint?...

Not sure how you would allocate the amount. Wag & I bought ours unpainted and everything was assembled when we got them. They had been run and we really only had to wire the rear fender, install & wire the gauges/dash panel, tach and hook up the front of the harness.

It is time consuming if you haven' t done one before, but we wired Wags first and mine took about half the time once I got my paint back.

We coated (creamed) the insides of our tanks, trimmed all of the parts, redrilled the mounting holes and sanded all of the edges before they went to the body shop, and that took us about a week for both bikes. The tanks take 2 days if you do them right. A lot of shops will not line them.

I think the dealerships are going to have to determine paint allocation $$ and you just have to reach an agreement before you settle out.

Sorry not allowed----unless the Dealer wants to lose his franchise! New factory policy---bikes cannot be delivered to the customer unpainted. That is a fact.
Coated Tanks

Tim;

New one Pal, what is "Creamed / Coated" in the tanks please?

I'm guessing max one more crappy Fl. salt season and my scoot will need a new finish.

Thanks

Jack,

A liquid coating that hardens inside the tank to prevent rust or corrosion. It's a three or 4 step process depending on which product you use. Not real expensive and it does help reduce the crap you accumulate in the tanks especially is the scoot ever sits. You can get it through any of the online stores or most HD shops.

Tank Coating

Tim,

Thanks, never heard of a product like that before, but have definately been burnt, choked, clogged, etc. for lack of it on several different vehicles, including scoots.

I will definately apply whichever you all recommend as best when she goes for paint.

Theres so many different coats, and different finishes on it now, it will probably need to be stripped next time. Suppose I should apply one of those coatings after prep work, and before final paint, if that makes sense.

Jack,

It would need to be done before you even get it primed. The cleaning agent and metal etching are VERY caustic and the outside of the tank needs to be cleaned after you cream the inside of the tank.

As for the paint, you're right, there are so many finishes and brands tochoose from, it's best to find a painter that you like for thier style and let them go for it.

I'm going to have these guys re-paint my bike when I'm ready. I met them at a dealer show and the work is incredible. What is even more incredible is they do 200 custom paint jobs a month! The price for a complete paint job is around $2500 to $3000 depending on what you have done and the turn around is two weeks. You might want to give these guys a call.

Coating Tank

Tim;

Thanks, that thread explained more to me what the procedure actually does, and it WILL be done before she gets new paint!

There is so much total product on the outside of my tank now, that was most of the problem getting those "paint saver" caps to fit. After I discovered that, I cleaned LAYERS of paint from the female threads in the tank, per sage advise, treated with Model Airplane Fuel Proof Dope, and the caps threaded right in!

Thanks.
